How to Organize your Signature Accessories
What are Signature Accessories? Signature accessories are as individual as your signature; putting your personal stamp on a room and reflecting the things you love most. They are the items that you collect that tell visitors who you are and what you love. It can be figurines such as angels, animals, family photos or any other items that you collect that mean something to you. They are a reflection of you and what you like in your home.
Now that you know what they are, I have a question for you. Are your signature accessories taking over your home? Do you have every surface covered with something? When you let this happen it begins to look and feel more like clutter then prized treasures that you love.
So let’s talk about how to handle and organize your accessories to maximize their impact without taking over your home. First let’s take one section of your room and remove every accessory item then follow these guidelines to replace items. These theories can apply to mantels, hall tables, side tables and buffets, any surface where you have accessories.
There are two types of accessories that make up most displays: functional belongings (books, coasters, and lamps, etc.) and purely ornamental items (pictures, sculptures, or art objects). The most appealing vignettes often integrate both.
1. Go through your accessories and select your most prized possession. Set the others aside for now.
2. Instead of having like items spread throughout the room, group them together in groups of three, five or seven for greater impact. Objects always look better in odd numbers as shown here with this collection of clocks. Clocks are one of the #1 accessories collected.
3. To assemble a vignette, use objects of at least three different heights to lead the eye from the table surface up into the air. With our clock collection you
will notice that it begins very low on the table and continues up onto the wall. This draws your eye up.
4. Create interest by mixing in different sized items such as a large, medium and small object in a loose triangle. Or different shapes such as slender, chunkier and petite.
5. Use books to elevate accessories and add height and dimension.
6. Keep the size of your room in mind when adding accessories. In grand scaled rooms, large-scale accessories provide the necessary visual weight to fill the space. Bold accessories can work in small rooms as well, serving as dramatic focal points. But you
don’t want your small room to be overtaken with too many large overwhelming accessories.
7. Grouping your family photos together will have greater impact rather than having them all over your room.
Try matching all of your frames for a more cohesive look. Even if the sizes are different it will look more stylish and pulled together.
8. Change your home seasonally to add excitement in
your art and decorative accessories.

I hope these tips help as you accessorize your home and begin to organize your décor. You may want to select a few favorite items for each room and box up the rest. Why not rotate your accessories? They can make your room feel fresh and new with the changing season.
